VISUAL ARTIST
JUAN CASTILLO
Juan Miguel Castillo Díaz, visual artist. He was born in Antofagasta, Chile in 1952.
In 1982 he traveled to Europe, residing in Sweden since 1986.
He lived part of his childhood in the Pedro de Valdivia saltpeter mine in the pampas of northern Chile, this left a mark on him. He studied architecture for two years at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso. Later, in Santiago, he studied engraving with Eduardo Vilches, at the Art School of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile as a free student.
In Santiago, between 1978 and 1983, he was a member of the C.A.D.A Art Action Collective, a group of visual artists, writers and sociologists, made up of Lotty Rosenfeld, Diamela Eltit, Fernando Balcells, Juan Castillo and Raúl Zurita, with whom he carried out various art actions and installations both in Chile and abroad.
Since 1982 he has carried out most of his work abroad, and since 1998 he has returned to Chile frequently to continue collaborating and working with various spaces and visual artists.

Interventions with paint and graffiti on walls located in peripheral areas known as "wastelands". Using a plastic sleeve, the artist presented a publication with texts by Raúl Zurita, Diamela Eltit and Fernando Balcells.

Collective exhibition convened by the Vicaría de la Solidaridad for the international Human Rights year. Juan Castillo participated along Lotty Rosenfeld presenting the records of an intervention in the Forest Park in Santiago, Chile.

Juan Castillo participated with an article in the serigraphy folder generated within the framework of the International Symposium on Human Rights in 1978, 30 artists illustrate through serigraphs an article from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. 220 copies of folders were printed each containing 30 screenprints.

Serigraphic intervention in animitas located on the route between Santiago and Taltal on the North Panamerican highway. In parallel, Lotty Rosenfeld intervened in the pavement with her action “Una milla de cruces”, while Ignacio Agüero recorded the process (16 mm).
